Case Study 1

The Kodiak Island Borough School District adopted Bridges Grade 3 near the end of the 2003-04 school year. Both in 2004-05 and 2005-06 over 80% of the Bridges students scored at or above the Proficient Level on the state test compared with 76% of their peers statewide.

Case Study 2

At the start of the 2004-05 school year, the district’s third grade teachers began using the pre-publication version of Bridges Grade 3 and the district adopted the curriculum near the end of the same school year.  In 2004-05 91% of third grade students in the district met or exceeded state standards compared to 86% statewide. In addition, a two-year comparison within the district showed a marked improvement year to year.

Test: Oregon Assessment of Knowledge and Skills

Case Study 3

This case study aggregates data from a number of classrooms across seven districts in Oregon that used the Bridges Grade 3 curriculum during the 2006-07 school year. Results from the state test show that overall 78% of the Bridges students met or exceeded the math standard compared with 69% across the state. In addition, a higher percentage of Bridges students in each reportable subgroup met or exceeded the mathematics standard compared to their peers statewide.

Test: Iowa Test of Basic Skills

Case Study 4

Rainier Primary School in Rainier, Washington field-tested the pre-publication version of the Bridges Grade 3 curriculum during the 2004-05 school year. Test results for the class exceeded grade level norms and were well above their peers across the state and in a comparable school.

Case Study 5

A third grade teacher in eastern Washington field-tested the pre-publication version of the Bridges Grade 3 curriculum during the 2004-05 school year. Relative to the prior year a much higher percentage of students met their mathematics growth benchmark.

Case Study 6

A third grade teacher at Fort Bridger Elementary in Fort Bridger, Wyoming field-tested Bridges Grade 3 during the 2004-05 school year. Students test scores and measures of academic growth both increased significantly compared to her previous class.
