Box It or Bag It Components

Box It or Bag It provides a year's worth of whole group and independent practice for students in grades K-2. In addition to engaging lessons the Teachers Resource Guides feature daily calendar activities to teach, reinforce, and extend skills. Practice and Enrichment Boxes are optional extensions of the program.

Teachers Resource Guides

The Teachers Resource Guides contain whole group lessons featuring Seasonal Mathematics and Concept Instruction. Seasonal Mathematics consists of month-long units focused on a particular theme. Concept Instruction lessons are whole-group activities with teacher-guided use of manipulatives. The guides also include planning and organizational strategies, links to other subject areas, and a full section devoted to calendar activities and daily opening ideas.

Kindergarten

The year includes pumpkin math, weather prediction, and weighing baby chicks. Topics include sorting, measuring, graphing, estimating, patterning, counting, geometry, and money, along with beginning addition and subtraction. Relevant Practice and Enrichment Boxes include Shapes, Pattern, Reading, Writing & Understanding Numerals 0-10, Introduction to Measuring, and Money.

Grades 1 & 2

Grade 1 starts with sorting, graphing, and patterning teddy bears. In Grade 2 children move on from teddy bears to creating story problem, reading maps, and weighing potatoes. Topics include sorting, patterning, geometry, place value, graphing, measuring, money, addition and subtraction facts to 10 and 18, and multi-digit addition and subtraction. Relevant Practice and Enrichment Boxes include Money, Arithmetic, Pattern, Place Value Counting, and Understanding Measuring (Grade 2 only)

Practice & Enrichment Boxes

Practice & Enrichment Boxes are games and activities for individuals and small groups that reinforce and extend mathematical concepts covered in whole-group lessons. Children expand their own mathematical understanding while at the same time learning to make responsible choices, to work with others, and to challenge themselves.
