About Problem Solving with Story Boxes

Problem Solving with Story Boxes invites children to pose as well as solve problems. Created to complement Box It or Bag It Mathematics, these materials can be also be used to enhance any K-2 curriculum.

The activities in Story Boxes are designed to help children develop number and operation sense in the context of familiar life experiences such as going out to the playground, watching animals, and keeping track of one's possessions. These problems provide challenges for children to tackle in their own ways, drawing on their own mathematical understandings and knowledge. As they work to solve these problems and pose other for their classmates they develop their ability to think and communicate about mathematics.
